Stronger Together: The Case for Association Unification
The real estate industry is undergoing rapid transformation. In the past year alone, we’ve witnessed landmark changes—most notably those brought about by the NAR Settlement Agreement. As firms expand, markets evolve, and technologies like AI reshape the way we do business, the demand for efficient, cost-effective solutions has never been greater.
Association unification is a strategic response to these shifts. It strengthens our collective voice, enhances member services, and streamlines operations—all while remaining firmly rooted in our shared mission to support and advocate for real estate professionals.
By coming together, we can amplify our impact, reduce redundancies, and deliver greater value to every member. Unification isn’t just about today’s efficiencies—it’s about building a stronger, more sustainable future for our industry and the professionals who drive it.

Will I be required to join REsides mls?
No. REsides is a privately owned Multiple Listing Service (MLS) and is not affiliated with any REALTOR® association.
The current unification discussion pertains only to the REALTOR® associations and does not involve any changes to your MLS membership or participation requirements.

How will this impact Lowcountry Regional MLS?
The unification of the two associations is not an MLS merger and will not affect the daily operations of Lowcountry Regional MLS (LRMLS). LRMLS will remain fully independent, continuing to provide uninterrupted service and support to its members. In addition, members will retain the flexibility to join any MLS their Broker-in-Charge is affiliated with, ensuring continued access to the tools, resources, and market exposure they need for success. OVER THE PAST DECADE, OUR REGION HAS GROWN BEYOND THE TRADITIONAL “NORTH AND SOUTH OF THE BROAD” DIVIDE, WITH OUR MEMBERS NOW SERVING CLIENTS SEAMLESSLY ACROSS BEAUFORT AND JASPER COUNTIES.
BY UNITING, WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO STREAMLINE ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS, OPTIMIZE BUDGETS, AND ENHANCE MEMBER SERVICES, ENSURING GREATER EFFICIENCY AND IMPACT. THIS CONSOLIDATION WOULD ALSO AMPLIFY OUR ADVOCACY EFFORTS, IMPROVE OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS, AND EXPAND RESOURCES AND NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL MEMBERS.

How will this consolidation be conducted?
The Executive Committees of both associations will interview professional consultants with expertise in Realtor association consolidations. Once a consultant is selected, their guidance and industry experience will help navigate the consolidation process and facilitate meaningful member engagement. (March 4, 2025)
What are the anticipated costs?
BOTH ORGANIZATIONS MAINTAIN STRONG FINANCIAL STABILITY, A TESTAMENT TO THE LEADERSHIP OF THE CEO’s OF BOTH ASSOCIATIONS AND THE GUIDANCE AND PRUDENT STEWARDSHIP OF PAST AND PRESENT BOARDS OF DIRECTORS. WHILE THE EXACT COST OF THE UNIFICATION IS YET TO BE DETERMINED, BOTH ASSOCIATIONS ARE WELL-POSITIONED TO ABSORB THESE EXPENSES WITHOUT THE NEED TO INCREASE MEMBER DUES. (March 4, 2025)
Will there be opportunities for members to provide input?
Yes, we are beginning with a member survey to assess interest and gather feedback on how members prefer to receive information and communication throughout this process. Our commitment is to transparency and open dialogue, ensuring that members stay informed and engaged every step of the way. (March 4, 2025)
Is this decision being driven by the NAR settlement and practice changes?
No; however, it will position us for greater strength and stability, enabling us to proactively navigate regulatory and industry changes while enhancing resources, advocacy, and support for our members. (March 4, 2025)

BJCR Is Member Focused. Beaufort-Jasper County REALTORS® received its charter from the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) in 1962. More than 600 REALTORS® hold active membership in BJCR, with specializations including residential, commercial, property management, and appraisal services.
